NEWS: Aabenraa’s PtX Development annual report 2025 released

On 21 April 2026, PtX Development has published its first annual report, highlighting a landmark year of transformation from strategic vision to industrial reality. The report sets out how ambition has been converted into tangible local growth. It underlines major developments in green energy and sector coupling. Together, these position the municipality as a frontrunner in the green transition.
Invest in Aabenraa’s first annual report ‘From strategic vision to industrial reality’ highlights a landmark year where Aabenraa Kommune transformed strategic ambition into tangible local growth. With the launch of European Energy’s 52MW e-methanol facility, the municipality has hardware to show for its efforts to build a clear path towards both innovation, end social value and economic resilience.
The report clearly demonstrates how Aabenraa has taken a clear lead as a frontrunner in the green transition and an emerging circular hub. By focusing on the long-term value of a sector coupled industry hub rather than isolated industries, we reap all the multiplier effects of green technologies.
Key highlights include:
- A complete green energy value chain: From solar RE to RFNBO certified green hydrogen, e-methanol, bunkering on Aabenraa Havn, to offtake in shipping by A.P. Møller - Mærsk and plastics by LEGO and Novo Nordisk.
- National Industry Park: Aabenraa’s Kassø area was designated as Denmark’s largest National Industrial Park of 11 in total – with a green and circular focus.
- Danish-German H2 development: €1.6 million grant from the European Investment Bank (EIB) to mature the cross-border hydrogen economy.
- Proof of societal value of RE and PtX: A Ramboll Consulting report “The societal value of RE and PTX” confirming that 1 GW of combined RE and PtX capacity pulls DKK 9.4 billion in investments and creates 14,800 full-time jobs.
- Aabenraa’s technical readiness confirmed: A Capacity & Feasibility Study confirmed that Aabenraa has technical capacity to realise 40+ industrial facilities in synergy, including RE, PtX, food & biosolutions, pyrolysis and more.
- Media coverage doubled: Aabenraa saw media coverage related to its green energy efforts more than doubling in 2025 – with 50% relating to the opening of Kassø PtX, and another 50% to marketing and investment promotion efforts.
