NEWS: Green energy gets a boost as Kvasir Technologies sets up in Aabenraa
Date: 14.01.2025
Aabenraa Havn has landed its most innovative energy player yet. Danish cleantech company Kvasir Technologies has chosen the port as the site for its first commercial biofuel production plant. The move signals another strong step in Aabenraa’s ambitions as a leader in Denmark’s green transition.
Kvasir Technologies uses patented technology to convert biomass into drop-in green fuels that can replace fossil fuels without changing existing infrastructure. The new facility at Aabenraa Harbour will be the first of its kind, providing up to 50 new jobs and drawing investment to Southern Jutland. The project is a result of close collaboration between the municipality and the port, both of which have prioritised green innovation.
Mayor Jan Riber Jakobsen highlights the decision as proof that the municipality’s strategy is working: “This is a clear sign that our political commitment and investments in the green transition are paying off. We are creating new jobs, attracting innovative companies, and showing that Aabenraa is ready to lead the way in Denmark’s energy future.”
Backed by a local political commitment of DKK 10 million to “More Power to the Green Transition,” Aabenraa is increasingly seen as an attractive hub for cleantech growth. The site, formerly a coal storage area, is being transformed into a state-of-the-art bulk terminal, strengthening the port's profile as a sustainable logistics centre. With this, Aabenraa Havn aims to become a central biofuel hub, inspire more companies to follow Kvasir’s lead.
As highlighted in the original article from Aabenraa Havn, this milestone reflects how strategic vision and strong partnerships are reshaping Southern Jutland’s energy landscape and how Aabenraa is positioning itself at the forefront of Denmark’s green transition.
